Bill Henderson was born and raised in Miami, FL and went on to be a 3 time all-state player in both football and baseball. Shortly after signing with the University of Miami to play both sports, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1987 MLB Draft. After 3 and 1/2 years of playing, a serious shoulder injury forced an early retirement and led him to enroll to the UM School of Business.
Upon graduation, Bill went on to having a successful career in the financial industry while always keeping his hand in the game of baseball through high school coaching and an annual summer camp business.
In 2009 a series of events led the Henderson Family (of 5) to move to Greenville where Bill started Henderson Baseball Academy which has since merged and is West End Baseball Academy.
At any given time, West End coaches 250 + kids in the form of one-on-one instruction, camps and travel teams. Bill’s “claim to fame” and mark in the baseball community is for being a premiere in-game coach, a great communicator of the game and an enthusiastic organizer of events.
Bill’s wife Carrie is a Nurse Practioner with Clemson Eye…they have 3 children: Taylor, a junior at Clemson majoring in Packaging Science, Caroline, a freshman at Clemson (Communications) and Leigh Ann a sophomore at Greenville High.
People of Greenville is about the people that make our city great. It is about the lives and the stories that shape our past and mold our future.
